CAMILO PEREZ IS ELECTED TO THE IOC
The President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, South American Sports Organization and South American Tennis Confederation and member of the Executive Committee of Panam Sports, Camilo Perez, was elected as a Member of the International Olympic Committee during the 133rd IOC Session in Buenos Aires.
Camilo Perez has dedicated several years of his life to sports leadership. His professionalism, dedication and love of sport have led him to positions that no other Paraguayan sports leader has achieved in history.
He is currently President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, President of the South American Tennis Confederation (COSAT) and President of the South American Sports Organization (ODESUR), as well as a Member of the Executive Committee of Panam Sports and the Executive Council for the Association of National Olympic Committees.
His leadership achievements were greatly acknowledged at the 133rd IOC Session in Buenos Aires where he received 67 votes in favor of becoming a new IOC Member, with only six votes against and four abstentions. The outpouring of support confirmed Perez as a new Member of the IOC.
Perez’s election is an achievement for Paraguayan sport and Panam Sports is very proud to have another strong leader from the American continent to serve as a Member of the International Olympic Committee.
“I am very happy and grateful. I cannot express in words the emotion I feel right now. I want to thank my family for always being there to support me, to the International Olympic Committee for the trust, and to my beloved country for giving me the honor to always raise our flag high. Paraguay, we can do it!” an excited Camilo Perez said after the election.
IOC Member and Panam Sports President Neven Ilic congratulated his good friend on the accomplishment. “This is a moment of pride for all of us. It is a well-deserved recognition for the great work that Camilo has done throughout his career as a sports leader. He is a tremendous leader and a better person. It is undoubtedly a contribution to the Olympic world.”
