The 2026 Pan American Rhythmic Gymnastics Adult Championship is set to electrify Rio de Janeiro from June 5 – 7, as the continent’s best gymnasts compete for continental glory – and crucial spots on the road to the Lima 2027 Pan American Games.
The three-day event, held in the iconic Arena Carioca 1 inside the Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca, will serve double duty as an official qualifier for both the 2026 Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship in Frankfurt, Germany and the Lima 2027 Pan American Games. Only the six best All-Around teams can secure their presence at the continent’s top multi-sport event. This means that every routine carries that much more weight.
Organized by the Pan American Gymnastics Union (UPAG) and the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation (CBG), the championship brings together elite rhythmic gymnasts from across the Americas in one of the sport’s most visually stunning disciplines. There will be seven competition floors as gymnasts from 19 national federations – including powerhouses Cuba, Brazil, the United States, Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela – battle across four individual apparatus events and two group routines.
A Qualifier With Enormous Stakes
With Lima 2027 approaching fast, every score at Arena Carioca 1 carries implications far beyond the medal podium. National federations will be watching closely as their gymnasts navigate the full individual all-around across four apparatus – hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon – while group ensembles compete in the 5 Balls and the 3 Rings + 2 Clubs mixed format. The top performers will have the opportunity to punch their ticket to Frankfurt and strengthen their nations’ bids for a spot at the Pan American Games on home soil in Peru.
The Competition Format
The championship unfolds across three action-packed days with Friday, June 5th opening the Individual All-Around qualifying rounds – Group A and B competing in Hoop and Ball. That will be followed by the Group General competition featuring the 5 Balls routine in the evening. Saturday, June 6th continues the individual qualifiers with Clubs and Ribbon, before awarding the Individual All-Around and Team medals and wrapping up the evening with the mixed Group qualifier. Sunday, June 7 delivers the most dramatic day of all: Individual Apparatus Finals in all four events and both Group Finals, with medal ceremonies capping each session.
The Participants
The individual draw places 38 gymnasts across two groups. Group A features athletes from Cuba, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Aruba. Group B includes El Salvador, Nicaragua, Argentina, Colombia, Canada, Ecuador, Peru, USA, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Brazil, Paraguay and Venezuela. On the group side, 13 national ensembles will compete in the general round, with Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, USA, Canada, Guatemala, Colombia, Bolivia, Mexico, Chile, Venezuela and Cuba all vying for finals spots.
