BRAZIL’S GOLDEN ROUTINE EARNS THEM THEIR SECOND GOLD IN RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS

Brazil got their revenge after finishing third in Lima. They clinched the gold medal in the five hoops category in rhythmic gymnastics with a score of 35.850 points. The second place went to Mexico with 34.150 points, while the bronze was claimed by the United States with 30.700 points.

Team Brazil performed a routine to Whitney Houston’s song ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody.’ The gymnasts executed their routine wearing bright, golden-themed costumes, perfectly matching the medals they earned in the Team All-Around competition at Santiago 2023. Brazil team was composed of Barbara Urquiza, Gabriella Coradine, Victoria Anderson, Giovanna Oliveira, and Nicole Pircio.

“‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ is a classic. We heard this song on a TV program in Brazil; it has the style of Brazilian songs, featuring samba and funk. When we heard this song, we immediately liked it, fell in love with it, and said it would be our song to make history. We are very happy because we have brought unprecedented results for Brazil through this choreography of Whitney Houston’s song,” said coach Camila Ferezin.

“It was a lot of hard work. We had a beautiful year. We started the year by winning many medals for Brazil, many historic medals, like this one, and we couldn’t finish it without making history as well. We came here focused on winning all the gold medals,” explained Nicole Pircio.

Mexico took the second spot with 34.150 points, performing a routine to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller.’ Team Mexico, silver medalists in the Team All-Around at Santiago 2023, consisted of Julia Gutierrez, Ana Flores, Kimberly Salazar, Adirem Tejeda, and Dalia Alcocer.

“The result was secondary for us. What mattered to us was to be satisfied with each routine, and, of course, we were satisfied after that routine. What we evaluated the most and considered important was the performance,” said Mexico’s gymnast Adirem Tejeda.

The competition’s podium was completed by the United States with 30.700 points. The U.S. team, bronze medalists in the Team All-Around at Santiago 2023, included Katrine Sakhnov, Gergana Petkova, Hana Starkman, Isabelle Connor, and Karolina Saverino.

The group competitions will continue at the National Stadium’s Collective Sports Center on Saturday, November 4, with the final of three ribbons and two balls scheduled for 18:30 Chilean time and 15:30 Central time.
