MARIANA PAJON ACHIEVES THE BEST TIME IN BMX RACING TIME TRIAL WITH SEBASTIAN YATRA CHEERING HER ON

“It’s an honor to have Sebastian here, giving us strength and sending the best energy. He also puts some pressure on us because we have to perform well,” said Mariana Pajon.

Mariana Pajon of Colombia, who won gold in BMX racing at Lima 2019, set the fastest time in the competition’s time trial. Among those present was Sebastian Yatra, who gave an incredible performance to close at the Santiago 2023 Opening Ceremony on Friday night.

With a time of 35.150 seconds, Pajon showcased her mastery and experience in the discipline, earning her the title “Queen of BMX.” Second place went to Payton Ridenour from the USA, who was +0.580 seconds behind Colombia’s opponent. Canada’s Molly Simpson claimed the third spot with a time of +0.730.

“I am very happy to be here. It has been a year of many challenges. I’ve had two surgeries on my right elbow, and as soon as these Games are over, I will go for the third one. I am enduring and giving my best. Many people told me, ‘Don’t race this year,’ but coming to these Games was essential. The atmosphere is phenomenal, the track is excellent, and you can see the effort they made to have it. It’s an honor to have Sebastian (Yatra) here, giving us strength and sending the best energy. He also puts some pressure on us because we have to perform well,” said the Olympic medalist regarding the presence of her compatriot, Sebastian Yatra.

The singer, who traveled to Peñalolen with his team, was excited to see his compatriots compete. After the competition, he took photos with fans.

On Sunday, there will be seven races, starting with the quarterfinals. The athletes will be ranked in heats based on their times from today, with the fastest times advancing to more accessible rounds.
