The Jamaican bobsleigh pilot achieved a historic performance by finishing in fourteenth place, equaling the Caribbean country’s best result at a Winter Olympics.

Mica Moore spoke exclusively with Panam Sports after her competition.

Jamaican athletes are always a big draw for the media and the general public at the Winter Olympics.

How can a tropical country with no snow and temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius for most of the year have athletes participating in an Olympic event in the snow and cold?

It’s a question many people ask themselves, and it inspired Hollywood to make the movie “Cool Runnings,” based on the story of the Jamaican bobsleigh team that competed in Calgary in 1988.

Since then, at every Winter Olympics, Jamaican athletes have been held in special affection and receive everyone’s support.

For these Milan-Cortina Games, Jamaica presented a delegation of five athletes, five men and only one woman, Mica Moore.

The latter competed on Monday in the Monobob Bobsleigh, putting in an outstanding performance and finishing in 14th place with a time of 4:01.31.

In the first heat, she finished in 17th place with a time of 1:00.55; then in the second heat, thanks to her time of 1:00.43, she climbed up the rankings to 15th place; in the third heat, she achieved a time of 1:00.41; and in the fourth heat, she achieved her best time of 59.92 seconds.

This was a historic performance, equaling Jamaica’s best result at a Winter Olympics. The previous record was set by the men’s bobsleigh team in Calgary in 1988, which finished in 14th place.

Panam Sports spoke with Mica Moore after her performance in Milan-Cortina. The 33-year-old Jamaican athlete did not hide her excitement in front of the microphones.

“I just finished 14th at the Olympics. It’s absolutely incredible. It’s more than I ever dreamed of, and I’m very happy and proud,” Moore said.

“It’s been an incredible competition, being part of such a fun race where so many different things happen in each run. It’s a memory I will cherish forever,” the Jamaican pilot concluded.
