The Organizing Committee’s goal is to bring together 17,000 men and women to help all attendees of the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
Only 30 days after launching the call for volunteers to join the next Pan American and Parapan American Games, the Organizing Committee reports that registrations are coming in at a good pace and they’ve already reached the 5,000 registrations milestone.
To date, there are a total of 5,018 registered through the application form on the Santiago 2023 website, of which 56.4% are women and 43.2% are men.
Nearly 70% of registrations are Chilean men and women, but there is also international interest with registrations from Peru (12.7%), Colombia (5.7%), Brazil (5.3%) and Argentina (4.4%), among other countries. In addition, 1.9% of the applicants are people with disabilities.
“We are happy with the response to our call to be part of Santiago 2023 and that gives us more strength to continue working to get the total number of volunteers we need. They will be the protagonists of the biggest sports festival in our country,” said Santiago 2023 Executive Director Gianna Cunazza.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applications are open to anyone in the world who is 18 years or older and apply through the official website of Santiago 2023. The process will continue with group interviews, training and role assignments, according to the work areas and locations indicated by the interested party.
The next Pan American and Parapan American Games expect to gather 17,000 volunteers, six times more than the force used in the Santiago 2014 South American Games where 2,800 men and women participated. Other previous events such as the Chile 2015 Copa América and the Santiago 2017 Youth South American Games enlisted 650 and 1,300 participants, respectively.
Between October and November of next year, the sporting mega-event will bring together 7,000 athletes and 2,000 para athletes from 41 countries of the continent to compete in 39 Pan American sports and 17 Parapan American sports, with 60 and 18 disciplines, respectively.
