Training, testing and technical exchange take place alongside the Pan American U20 Championships in Tepic, Mexico
Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. From September 27 to October 3, 2026, the Nayarit Sports Village is hosting the Panam Sports – Pan American Weightlifting Federation (PAWF) – IWF Camp. It is a week of preparation, learning and exchange for weightlifters and coaches from across the Americas.
The camp is organized by Panam Sports and the PAWF, together with the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the support of the Mexican Olympic Committee. It runs alongside the Pan American U20 Weightlifting Championships in Tepic, which is also the second qualifying event for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games. Athletes and coaches from the National Federations affiliated with the PAWF are taking part, according to the quotas and participation already established.
More than a training week
The camp is designed to complement the preparation of its participants through a program that combines training, performance monitoring and education. Athletes take part in training sessions and physical and sports evaluations, with follow-up on their progress and activities focused on developing their performance. Coaches attend training sessions, share knowledge and experience with colleagues from other countries, and work on sports planning and preparation.
Placing these activities inside one of the main events on the continental calendar means the camp is tied directly to competition, not separate from it.
Objectives
The camp’s stated goal is to strengthen the sporting preparation and technical capacity of athletes and coaches from the region through training, evaluation, learning and the exchange of experiences. More specifically, it aims to:
Impact beyond Tepic
Organizers hope the benefits reach well past the week itself. The camp is expected to strengthen the development of participating athletes, raise coaches’ technical capacity, deepen cooperation among National Federations, and produce tools and knowledge that can be applied in national programs afterward. The broader aim is the sustainable development of weightlifting in the Americas.
A shared commitment
The camp reflects the joint commitment of Panam Sports, the Pan American Weightlifting Federation and the Mexican Olympic Committee in developing sporting talent and strengthening the technical foundations of the sport in the region. It brings together athletes and coaches from different countries in one continental setting, where they can learn from one another and prepare for what comes next, including the road to Lima 2027.
