ROWING AGAINST THE WIND, MEXICO AND ARGENTINA WON GOLD

Amidst rain and strong winds, the 2nd ASU2025 Pan American Games concluded with a thrilling day of canoeing speed. Mexico took gold in the women’s category, while Argentina dominated the men’s K2 500 meters.

In the women’s category, Mexico took the top spot on the podium with the duo of Ana Hernández and Naomi Campos, who clocked a time of 1:59.61 minutes to take the gold medal.

“We always work together, and we got the result we hoped for. Our next goal is the next Pan American Games, and we aim for the highest. We dedicate this to our coaches and our families. Even though we are resilient, they are even more so,” they said after the competition.

The silver medal went to Chile, with Maira Toro and Fernanda Sepúlveda achieving a time of 2:02.79 minutes. “Dedicated to my teachers and all the people who have been supporting us, we are happy to wear medals of all colors,” they commented.

The bronze went to Cuba, represented by Lismary Bombino and María Álvarez, with a time of 2:05.34 minutes.

Argentines won the K2 gold medals

In the men’s event, the Argentine duo of Vicente Vergauven and Baltazar Itria dominated the K2 500 meters with a time of 1:45.14 minutes, securing the gold medal.

“This victory was a long overdue victory ever since we were called up. Since last year’s qualifiers, we’ve been training hard for this, and obviously we’re going all out, we’re aiming for that,” Itria said.

Second place went to Uruguay, with Tadeo Arca and Matías Maccio, who clocked 1:49.14 minutes.

The podium was completed with bronze for Chile, thanks to the performance of Sebastián Alvear and Mateo Cossio, with 1:49.33 minutes.
