TIME BRASIL SHINES IN THE IBERO-AMERICAN ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP

The brazilians once again won the medal table with a total of 43 medals, 16 gold, 12 silver and 15 bronze, Spain came second (4-7-4) and Colombia (3-7-8) obtained third position.

The traditional tournament was broadcast live to the entire world through the Panam Sports Channel.

With Brazil as the “Supreme King” of the competition, the XX version of the Cuiaba 2024 Ibero-American Athletics Championship ended this Sunday.

The historical leader of this event had a very outstanding performance, obtaining a total of 43 medals, 16 of them gold, to be at the top of the general classification.

Almir Junior stood out in Time Brasil, who won the triple jump with a very good 17.31 meters, a new competition record. In the 100 meters Felipe Bardi won with 10.14 seconds. In the men’s javelin, Pedro Nunes reached the top of the podium with 85.11 meters, a mark that constitutes a new record for the competition. In the women’s 4x400m, Time Brasil achieved gold with 3:30.72, as well as in the men’s 4x100m and women’s 4x100m with 39.19 and 43.57 seconds respectively.

Among the outstanding results of this championship are the triumph of the Argentine Elián Larregina in the 400 meter dash, who took the gold with 45.27 seconds with a new national record; the gold in the 800 meter dash by Berdine Castillo of Chile with 2:00.84, just hundredths away from the Chilean record; and the gold medal for Bolivia in this tournament from David Ninavia who finished the 3,000 meter dash with a time of 8:05:26.

In the 200 meter dash, the recent Pan American Champion in Santiago 2023, José González, shone, winning gold with a time of 20 seconds and 27 hundredths. In the 100 meter dash he took silver with 10.25.

In the women’s javelin, the world medalist from Colombia took first place with 66.70 meters, a new national and South American record for the event. The same result was obtained by her teammate in Heptathlon Martha Valeria Araujo. Both the most prominent in the coffee country.

From Uruguay, the most important victory was by María Paz Fernández, in the 1500-meter dash test, taking the gold medal with 4:11.65.

Ecuador, for its part, achieved 1-2 in the 200 meter dash with Aimara Nazareno obtaining first place with 23.07 followed by her compatriot Gabriela Anahi Suárez with 23.20 seconds. In the men’s 4×400 meters, Mexico won the gold medal with 3:05.73.
