UNITED STATES WINS GOLD IN WOMEN’S HAMMER THROW

U.S. athlete DeAnna Price secured her first Pan American Games medal with a throw of 72.34 meters in the women’s hammer throw event.

DeAnna Price, the reigning world champion in the hammer throw from Doha 2019 and a bronze medalist at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, earned her first gold medal at the Pan American Games with a throw of 72.34 meters in the competition held at the National Stadium in Chile’s capital.

“I feel very happy. Chile is absolutely incredible. The people provide so much energy; I love it. Bringing home the gold is absolutely incredible for me, but also sharing a small part of this with Chile has been an honor,” Price stated.

Additionally, Venezuela’s athlete Rosa Rodriguez captured the silver medal, marking her third Pan American Games medal. It’s worth noting that Rodriguez won gold at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto and bronze in Lima 2019, with distances of 71.61 and 69.48 meters, respectively. At Santiago 2023, she completed her collection of three Pan American medals.

“I’m super happy; I’ve been working for a long time, coming back from an injury. This victory is quite significant for me. Winning this third medal at the Pan American Games is the best thing that could have happened to me,” said Rosa Rodriguez.

The podium was rounded out by Canada’s athlete Kaila Butler, who won the bronze, her first medal at the Pan American Games, with a throw of 65.10 meters.
