Only 50 days separate us from a celebration that promises to be historic and unforgettable. The Dominican Republic is preparing to host this mega sporting event for the third time, and its capital, Santo Domingo, will become the first city to host the Central American and Caribbean Games for the second time in its history this coming July.
This is a special edition, dubbed the Centennial Games, as it marks 100 years since the event was first held in 1926 in Mexico City.
The Central American and Caribbean Games is the oldest regional mega-sports event in the world, bringing together 37 countries from the Americas.
More than 6,500 athletes across 40 sports have already confirmed their participation in this edition.
Among the Olympic and world-class stars expected to participate in this event are local athletes such as Marileidy Paulino in track and field, Yunior Alcántara and Cristian Pinales in boxing, and Las Reinas del Caribe in volleyball, among others.
As for the foreign stars, world medalists are expected to participate, including Anderson Peters in track and field, the Limardo brothers from Venezuela in fencing, and the Cuban wrestlers led by Olympic champion Luis Alberto Horta, among many other athletes.
One of the most exciting events of the entire competition will be the triple jump in track and field. It will undoubtedly be a recap of the Olympic and world finals in this event, as the record-holder and Tokyo 2020 champion, Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas, the three-time world champion, Cuba’s Leyanis Pérez; and the reigning Olympic champion from Paris 2024, Thea Lafond of Dominica, will face off and compete for glory.
In diving, the world’s best are also expected to compete, as Mexico has confirmed its participation with its A team. This means we will see Olympic medalists Osmar Olvera, Juan Celaya, and Gabriela Agundez in the Dominican capital, as well as world medalists Randal Willars and the sisters Mia and Lia Cuevas.
The Opening Ceremony will take place at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium on Friday, July 24. It promises to be an extremely captivating event, featuring a show that will blend the culture, music, and traditions of the Dominican Republic, along with the traditional athletes’ parade and a grand musical performance, which Centro Caribe Sports has not yet revealed.
Prior to the Opening Ceremony, the Centennial Grand Gala will be held, bringing together athletes from today and the past, Dominican government officials, and the entire Central American and Caribbean family. This event will mark not only the start of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of these Games but also the beginning of this regional sports festival.
The Central American and Caribbean Games will take place from Friday, July 24, to Saturday, August 8 and will feature more than 50 disciplines, detailed below:

Team sports: Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Basketball, 3×3 Basketball, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Handball
Combat sports: Boxing, Wrestling (freestyle and Greco-Roman), Judo, Karate, Taekwondo
Cycling: Road, Track, BMX, and Mountain biking
Shooting and precision: Shooting (rifle and pistol), Clay shooting, Archery, Bowling
Racket and table sports: Tennis, Table tennis, Badminton, Squash, Racquetball
Gymnastics and artistic sports: Artistic gymnastics, Rhythmic gymnastics, Trampoline gymnastics
Other Olympic sports: Fencing, Equestrian, Triathlon, Modern pentathlon, Weightlifting, Rowing, Canoeing
Additional Sports: Golf, Surfing, Skating (figure, speed, and skateboarding), Water skiing, Sailing, Rugby 7s, Hockey, Netball, Esports, Chess, Billiards, and Bowling
