The intriguing world of eSports and its bright future will be the theme of the next exciting edition of the Expert Connection on the Panam Sports Channel, live this Thursday, August 13 at 4pm (ET).

Joining the conversation will be Ultimate Gamer Founder and entrepreneur Steve Suarez as well as retired professional gamer and current broadcaster of The Overwatch League, Jake Lyon.

This week, the Panam Sports Expert Connection will tackle the growing phenomenon of eSport and how it has managed to capture the adoration of millions of fans and players worldwide.

From playing in living rooms against friends to sold-out stadiums in million-dollar competitions, competitive video games and the eSports community have grown immensely in the past decade. It is a community that continues to be recognized at the highest levels and has spawned the creation of innovative digital companies such as Twitch as well as countless leagues, tournaments and teams.

As its popularity continues to boon, professional sports leagues such as the National Basketball Association (NBA) have opened separate branches or leagues devoted to eSports competitions, while colleges and Universities have begun creating teams and scholarships to attract talented players to their schools.

With the lines between traditional and virtual sport beginning to blur, some question whether the logical next step is the inclusion of eSports competitions in international events like the Olympics or the Pan American Games.

This intriguing idea as well as other controversial questions regarding the future of eSports will be the topic of debate on the next edition of the Expert Connection featuring two experts in the field: Ultimate Gamer Founder Steve Suarez and retired professional gamer Jacob Lyon.

Steve Suarez is an entrepreneur and the creator of Ultimate Gamer, an entertainment and technology organization with an eye on the future of eSports. The platform celebrates the community and unites gamers across a variety of genres including sports, fantasy and action, hosting a worldwide tournament to determine who is the “Ultimate Gamer”. Steve also launched the firm BlackStage Productions which organizes and manages events that engage audiences, with clients including the NFL, Formula 1 Racing, CONCACAF and the Miami Marathon, among others.

Jacob Lyon is a retired professional gamer known as “Jake” who played for several teams in The Overwatch League and also served as captain of the U.S. Overwatch World Cup team in 2017. Jake made the switch from the controller to the broadcast booth after retiring, joining The Overwatch League broadcast team as a caster. He was also chosen to attend the summit between the International Olympic Committee and the eSports community in July 2018 and is well-renowned as an ambassador for virtual sport.
