The 2023 season for Gaby Agundez and Alejandra Orozco has been spectacular. After securing the long-awaited qualification to the Olympic Games in Paris, the duo took another giant step this weekend by qualifying for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic medalists took first place in the synchronized 10 meter platform event held at the CAR pool in Nuevo Leon during Mexico’s National Team selection competition, automatically receiving their tickets to compete in Chile this October.

Orozco and Agundez, coached by Ivan Bautista, achieved a score of 294.24 on the platform, surpassing the duo of Alejandra Estudillo and Viviana del Angel who finished with 262.86 points.

“I am very excited to be officially in Santiago 2023 with Gaby Agundez. We have done a great job and have worked towards this for many years. These will be my third Pan American Games. We are going to go in search of medals and to prepare ourselves for this process that we are carrying out for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” said Alejandra Orozco, Ambassador of Team Panam Sports.

“The objective was achieved, we got the pass here in Mexico, and I am happy and excited because it will be my second Pan American Games. So now we are focused 100% on Santiago 2023 and giving our best. But more than a platform partner, she is a sister, a friend of mine, and I am very happy to be fulfilling this dream with her,” added her partner Gaby Agundez.

In addition to Alejandra and Gaby, another duo that booked their tickets to Santiago 2023 was Arantxa Chavez and Paola Pineda by winning the 3m springboard competition with a total score of 255.36.

These four athletes will join other Santiago 2023 qualifiers from Mexico including Rodrigo Diego and Carolina Mendoza in the 3m springboard, Osmar Olvera, Kevin Berlin and Randal Willars in synchronized events and of course the champions of the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games, Alejandra Estudillo and Frida Zuñiga.
