On Thursday, April 30, the Panam Sports Channel will present a very important topic for Spanish-speaking athletes on the “Expert Connection” series. What to eat?; How and when to eat?; and the importance of good nutrition are just some of the questions that will be answered during the presentation.

Nutritionists Gloria Ines Garcia from Colombia and Aurora Leon from Mexico will be sharing their vast experience in nutrition for athletes and how to navigate this new normal we are all experiencing.

During quarantine, it is very common for everyone including athletes, children, youth and adults to fall into the temptation to eat more and to eat unhealthy foods.

More time spent at home can lead to more inactivity and an increase in the amount of time spent in front of the television or the computer, both of which are key when it comes to eating poorly and creating nutritional imbalances that can affect athletes. To combat this, Panam Sports has searched for two professionals in the field of Nutrition to join the Expert Connection series on the Panam Sports Channel. On Thursday, April 30 at 4pm ET, Gloria Ines Garcia and Aurora Leon will join the series to guide everyone on how to cope with the issue of food and eating healthy during these uncertain times.

With the theme “#StayInShape: Nutrition During a Pandemic”, these two professionals will participate in an interesting conversation with athletes, trainers and members of the Pan American family who can send their questions live using the chat feature of the Panam Sports Channel.

Gloria Ines Garcia is a Colombian Nutritionist and Dietitian from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota and a candidate for the title of Doctor of Science in Physical Activity and Sport at the Autonomous University of Madrid. In addition, she has a Masters in Research Innovation in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences from the University of Leon, Spain and a Masters in High Sports Performance – Biomedical Area of ​​the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain and has worked with the Spanish Olympic Committee.

She has been a consultant Nutritionist for the Colombian Soccer Federation, the Colombian Olympic Committee, IDRD, as well as Indeportes Boyaca, Valle and Cundinamarca. She has also worked with Professional cycling and soccer teams such as América, Deportivo Cali and Santa Fe, among others.

She is currently a Member of the Colombian Association of Clinical Nutrition, serving as Coordinator of the ACNC’s area of ​​nutrition, exercise and sport, in addition to being a university professor.

Aurora Leon is a Nutritionist with a Master’s degree in Sports Nutrition from the University of Ulster. She obtained a Diploma in Sports Nutrition from the International Olympic Committee (2007-2008), is the Founder of Nutritrain Solutions – Sports Nutrition Clinic and is Vice President of the Mexican Federation of Sports Nutrition. She is currently a Nutritionist for Asdeporte and the team of athletes she represents.

In addition, Aurora is an athlete, having competed as a triathlete since 1989 and at the elite level in Mexico between 1992-1995. She also runs marathons with a personal best of 2 hrs. 56 min in the 2014 Toronto Marathon. Her most recent performance came at the 2019 Berlin Marathon where she achieved a time of 2 hrs and 58 min.
