IOC STATEMENT ON TOKYO 2020
Japan and the IOC stood firm on Friday on its commitment to host the Tokyo Olympics this year.
The Japan Government denied a report in The Times of a possible cancellation.
“We will clearly deny the report,” said Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Manabu Sakai in a news conference.
“We have at this moment, no reason whatsoever to believe that the Olympic Games in Tokyo will not open on the July 23 in the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo,” said IOC President, Thomas Bach.
The IOC in a statement said that “Some News reports circulating today are claiming that the government of Japan privately concluded that the Tokyo Olympics will have to be cancelled because of the Coronavirus, is categorically untrue.”
