OLYMPIC, WORLD AND PAN AMERICAN CHAMPIONS PAY TRIBUTE TO THE FRONTLINE WITH A PASSIONATE MESSAGE

With the message #ThisMedalisForYou, prominent athletes across the Americas thanked all of the healthcare workers throughout the world with an emotional video recognizing the dedication, solidarity and professionalism of the true heroes of this pandemic.

In total, 14 athletes from 13 countries who are recognized as one of the best athletes in their sport gave thanks, including Olympic Champions and medalists, World Champions and those who have excelled at the Pan American Games. These athletes hope to spread their message to all corners of the globe to recognize and show appreciation to all of those on the “Frontline” in the fight against Coronavirus.

MEXICO CITY (April 22, 2020) — In the most difficult moments they are present, always ready with words of encouragement and a helping hand. If there is anyone else who understands the effort, sacrifice, resilience, teamwork and ability to persist through adversity shown by the Frontline, it is undoubtedly the athletes of the world.

For this reason, a group of the most outstanding and renowned athletes of the Americas answered the call of Panam Sports and did not hesitate to participate in an emotional and sincere video with a clear message: thanking and recognizing all the men and women on the Frontline in the fight against Coronavirus, including the healthcare workers who are risking infections and their own lives yet continue to give their all to protect and care for those in need.

With the hashtags #ThisMedalisForYou and #EstaMedallaEsParaTi, the video seeks to raise awareness throughout society about the tremendous job that healthcare workers are doing by symbolically awarding these heroes with the medals that these great athletes throughout the region won through their own efforts and sacrifices.

“It is incredible how when it comes to helping and uniting for a noble cause, the athletes of the Americas are a true example for the world. In just a few days after reaching out to them, these athletes did not hesitate to record and send us their messages for us to put the video together. I sincerely thank everyone who helped us, but above all, our athletes who once again demonstrated that they are not only great idols in the water, on a court, or on a track, but also outside the field of play,” said Neven Ilic, President of Panam Sports.
