With 148 days to go before the start of the continent’s greatest sporting event, Panam Sports authorities praised the work being done in Santiago de Chile to host the Pan American Games next October.
“There are considerable improvements in every sense. The Government of Chile and the entire Corporation is fully committed, so we leave [Chile] with peace of mind and we are sure that it will be an unforgettable party for all of the Americas,” said Mario Moccia, Panam Sports Vice President.
Santiago, May 24.- There were 3 days of intense meetings and visits to the sports venues and the Pan American Village by the Coordination Commission and Technical Commission of Panam Sports.
The purpose of the visit was to follow-up on the progress and work together with the Santiago 2023 Corporation to review pending issues and prepare in the best way for the celebration that begins on October 20.
The meetings included a review of all the functional areas and joint work between the authorities of Panam Sports and the Local Organizing Committee.
Infrastructure, Technology, TV Broadcast, Media Services, Communications, Transportation, Catering, Customs Services and Accreditation were some of the areas discussed in the meetings.
On the final day, which included visits to the Bicentanario Peñalolen Park, the Chimkowe gymnasium, the Olympic Training Center and sub-sites at Viña del Mar and Quillota, the feedback provided by the Panam Sports authorities was extremely positive.
“We have seen considerable improvements in the venues and in the Pan American Village. The National Stadium is impressive. What we were able to see during the Commission’s visit is admirable and exciting. If Santiago 2023 continues working at the pace they are doing today, we won’t have any problems. We leave with peace of mind and we are sure that it will be an unforgettable celebration for all of the Americas”, said Mario Moccia, President of the Santiago 2023 Coordination Commission and Vice President of Panam Sports.
“We have many challenges. Many things are still missing so we have to continue working hard. The work of these commissions has been very important and we have a clear opinion from expert leaders with a lot of experience in Games. As I have said many times, I have no doubt that Chile will host a great Pan American Games and that the athletes and the public that visits the competition venues or watches this event on television will have a great experience,” said the Panam Sports President, Neven Ilic.
The Panam Sports Commissions leave Chile pleased with the results with no doubt that the works will be completed on time. The next visit is planned for July, to continue the joint work between all those involved in the organization of this historic event.
