SIX ADVANCE TO U20 SOUTH AMERICAN FOOTBALL FINALS WITH MAJOR QUALIFICATIONS ON THE LINE
After an exciting group stage, six teams remain in the hunt for the men’s 2023 U20 South American Football Championship title in Colombia and qualification to the biggest football tournaments of 2023.
The round-robin finals for the men’s U20 South American Football Championship are currently underway with the first match between Paraguay and Venezuela already in the books as they combined for a 1-1 tie.
The host nation of Colombia, Group A leader Brazil, Group B leader Uruguay and defending champions Ecuador are the other four teams that will compete in the final round.
Brazil, Uruguay and Colombia all finished the group stage without a single loss, with Brazil and Uruguay securing three victories and one draw and Colombia earning two victories and two draws. The group stage was held in the Host City of the 2021 Junior Pan American Games, Cali, with the site of the Opening Ceremony, Pascual Guerrero Stadium, as well as the Deportivo Cali stadium as the venues.
The final round is being held in the Colombian capital of Bogota where qualification to the 2023 U20 World Cup and the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games are both on the line. The games will be held at El Campin and the Metropolitano de Techo stadiums.
The top four teams in the final round will qualify to the World Cup being held in Indonesia beginning on May 20. The four teams will join the CONCACAF qualifiers of the United States, Guatemala, Honduras and the Dominican Republic, with the island nation making its U20 World Cup debut.
The top three teams of the tournament will also qualify to Santiago 2023 where they will compete against the host nation of Chile and the CONCACAF qualifiers of the U.S., Honduras, Dominican Republic and Mexico.
The women’s tournament is already set for Santiago 2023, featuring the host nation of Chile as well as the U.S., Jamaica, Costa Rica, Canada, Argentina, Paraguay and Venezuela.
