OLYMPIC DREAMS AT STAKE FOR VOLLEYBALL IN COLOMBIA AND CHILE
Four countries on the women’s side and another four on the men’s are seeking Olympic passage to the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ in tournaments that will be held in Colombia and Chile, respectively.
The champion of each event will automatically qualify to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan. Read below for more information about the 2020 Pre-Olympic Volleyball Tournaments.
Everything is ready in Colombia and Chile, where two tournaments will be held that promise to be extremely competitive with tickets to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic on the line.
In Bogota, Colombia, the women’s Pre-Olympic tournament begins on Tuesday, January 7, featuring the host country Colombia that finished in second at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games; Argentina, which finished with a bronze medal at Lima 2019; and the always difficult teams from Peru and Venezuela who have their own dreams of competing at the Olympics this July.
Colombia lost in the Lima 2019 final against the Dominican Republic and they want to qualify for first time in history to the Olympic Games.
In Santiago, Chile, the men’s teams of Chile, Colombia Venezuela and Peru will also be competing for the lone ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Chile’s men’s team achieved a historic silver medal at Lima 2019 and have emerged as favorites in the tournament, especially playing with the support of their fans as the host nation. However, Colombia, Venezuela and Peru are determined to pull off upsets and secure qualification to Tokyo.
