CANCUN, MEXICO (December 1, 2022) — The third edition of the Panam Sports Athlete Forum begins tomorrow, December 2 in the beautiful Mexican city of Cancun.

The three-day Forum brings together athletes from all 41 National Olympic Committees that compete at the Pan American Games to learn from one another and share their experiences, opinions and thoughts on how to improve the athlete experience in high-performance sport.

Led by the Panam Sports Athlete Commission together with Olympic Solidarity of the International Olympic Committee, the 2022 edition of the Athlete Forum will be the first held in person since the original edition in 2018 held in Miami. A virtual forum was held in 2020 during the pandemic to help athletes during one of the most difficult times of their careers.

The 2022 Panam Sports Athlete Forum will also be the first ever to be live streamed throughout the world on the Panam Sports Channel. Athletes throughout the Americas and the globe can tune in for free on the website or on the mobile application for all three days of the forum to join the discussion virtually.

The Panam Sports Athlete Forum was born in 2018 following Panam Sports’ implementation of its new Strategic Plan that placed athletes as the most significant and important pillar of the Organization. The forum brings together active and former Olympic medalists, world champions and Pan American Games participants to debate and discuss the most important topics that affect them.

The Panam Sports Athlete Commission will lead the majority of the Forum. The Commission is chaired by Aliann Pompey (GUY – Athletics) who works alongside Carlos Santiago (PUR – Judo), Adriana Escobar (ESA – Rowing), Isabel Swan (BRA – Sailing), Melissa Humana-Paredes (CAN – Beach Volleyball), Paola Longoria (MEX – Racquetball), Amber Joseph (BAR – Cycling) and Tony Azevedo (USA – Waterpolo) to ensure the athlete voice is heard in Americas’ Olympic Movement.

Panam Sports President Neven Ilic will begin this year’s Forum with his welcoming remarks, followed by IOC Olympic Solidarity Chair Olivier Niamkey and Athlete Commission President Aliann Pompey.

The most important topics affecting athletes will be discussed and debated, including anti-doping, Olympic Solidarity, the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, career options after sport, personal branding, Athlete 365, sport and sustainability, business entrepreneurship, mental health and many more.

Many incredible retired athletes will be speakers during this year’s Athlete Forum, including Asafa Powell (JAM – Athletics), Yane Marques (BRA – Modern Pentathlon), Kate Johnson (USA – Rowing), Ato Bolden (TTO – Athletics), Seyi Smith (CAN – Athletics) and Horacio de la Vega (MEX – Modern Pentathlon), while sprinting legend Allyson Felix (USA – Athletics) will deliver a video message for the participants.

Several legends are also attending the Forum among the nearly 100 participants, including Mijain Lopez (CUB – Wrestling), Felix Sanchez (DOM – Athletics), Walter Perez (ARG – Cycling), Antonio Diaz (VEN – Karate), Kineke Alexander (VIN – Athletics) and Esteban Bustos (CHI – Modern Pentathlon).
