After five months of action, the 2023 Diamond League schedule concludes with the grand final at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.

The 2023 Diamond League season concludes this weekend with the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon from September 16-17.
A total of 15 countries of the Americas will compete in the final event of the season as athletes seek to win the Diamond Trophy and $30,000 USD by winning their respective events. Athletes will compete in 16 events on both the men’s and women’s sides, with the finalists determined by the rankings with performance earning points throughout the 13 previous Diamond League meets that began on May 5.
The United States leads the way with an outstanding 68 athletes qualified to compete in the Diamond League final. Jamaica, Cuba, Canada, Grenada, Dominican Republic, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Venezuela, Dominica, Bahamas, Panama, Barbados, Guyana and Puerto Rico also have athletes competing in the finals.
Several world champions and stars of athletics are set to compete this weekend, including Noah Lyles, Sha’Carri Richardson, Grant Holloway, Ryan Crouser, Chase Ealey and Athing Mu for the United States, Shericka Jackson, Elaine Thompson-Herah and Tajay Gayle for Jamaica, Andre de Grasse and Marco Arop for Canada, Yulimar Rojas for Venezuela, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn for Puerto Rico, Kyron McMaster for the British Virgin Islands and Alexander Ogando for the Dominican Republic, among many more.
Two Ambassadors of Team Panam Sports for Santiago 2023, Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic and Anderson Peters of Grenada, will also compete in their respective events of the women’s 400m and men’s javelin. Both athletes seek to add a Diamond League championship to their resume before preparing to compete at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games this October and November.
All eyes will be on the premier and final competition of the two-day meet, as Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson seeks to make history by breaking the women’s 200m world record that has stood since Florence Joyner-Griffith set the mark of 21.34 seconds in 1988. Jackson ran the second-fastest time in history at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, clocking a 21.45s on August 25. Now, she seeks to put her name at the top of the history books.
