WORLD SOFTBALL CHAIRMAN CALLS CALI 2021 SOFTBALL VENUE “UNIQUE”
World Baseball Softball Confederation Executive and Softball division Chairman Tommy Velasquez visited the Simon Carbonell Diamond where he was surprised by the quality of the venue that will be used for the inaugural Junior Pan American Games of Cali 2021.
“This is a venue that is already ready and does not need a significant investment,” was just one of the many declarations by the Softball Chairman of the WSBC after touring the facilities and the renowned field where softball will be played during the Games.
Pan American Softball Confederation President Tommy Velasquez described the softball diamond as “unique”. “In addition to being the President of the Pan American Confederation, I am also the Chairman of Softball worldwide, and I have had the opportunity to visit many venues. This is a very unique venue that is unmatched anywhere else on the planet,” said the sport leader.
“They are going home happy and very satisfied with this venue which is excellently built,” said Jose Luis Echeverry Azcarate, General Director of the Junior Games that will be held from June 5-20, 2021.
The sport leader also indicated that these Games will have a high level of competition because the best young softball teams in the world such as the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico will be participating.
Sports and Recreation Secretary of Cali, Carlos Diago, also expressed the administration’s commitment to the multisport Games and the efforts needed to prepare the venue, including cleaning the roof and improving the grass on the field of play.
