GUILHERME CARIBE: THE BRAZILIAN WORLD SWIMMING STAR WHO WANTS TO WIN IT ALL AT ASU2025

He spent many months as the absolute leader of the season in the 50 and 100 meters freestyle swimming. Today being Top 3 in the world, he is preparing to compete in the World Championship in Singapore, and after that, to take his bags and travel directly to Asuncion to be part of the Brazilian delegation that will participate in the Junior Pan American Games 2025. He is Guilherme Caribe, Team Panam Sports Ambassador.

Earlier this year, Panam Sports contacted the outstanding Brazilian swimmer Guilherme Caribe and his representative to ask him if he wanted to be part of the select group of ambassadors for ASU2025.

At the time, he was ranked no less than first in the world in the 50m and 100m freestyle. His response was immediate: “Of course I want to be an ambassador for Team Panam Sports. I want to go to Asuncion to participate in my last Pan American Junior Games and win everything”.

Guilherme, at the age of 22, has achieved important accomplishments in world swimming. In addition to the 3 gold medals won at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023, he has to his credit two silver medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle at the World Short Course in Budapest 2024, and for all of Brazil, he represents one of the great candidates to win a medal at the next Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028.

We traveled to Tennessee, USA, where he studies and trains tirelessly. He received us with the friendliness and humility that characterizes him and told us about his goals for ASU2025 and his beginnings in swimming.

He dreams of a medal in the world championship in Singapore, and then travel to Asuncion and represent Brazil in the best way in the Junior Pan American Games.

When did your passion for swimming begin?
I started swimming when I was two years old with my father, I know I was very young, but I started competing when I was seven. I think I started swimming because my father wanted me to learn to swim. He thought I had a lot of talent and my father saw that in me. He didn’t hesitate and put me in competitions… and that’s how I started.

What does swimming mean to you?
Swimming means a lot to me, it’s basically my whole life. It’s my job, it’s what I love to do, it’s what I love. Swimming means my whole life.

What does it take to be a high performance swimmer?
I think to be a swimmer you have to focus every day, some days it’s harder than others. Sometimes you don’t want to train or you don’t want to come to the pool, but you know you have a goal and that’s what fuels your goal and what gets you there, so I’m very focused.

How would you describe your generation?
I mean my generation is really good, we can see guys my age breaking records, that’s really impressive.

What does it mean to you to be an ambassador for Team Panam Sports?
It means a lot and it was a lot of fun when you guys wrote me a message asking me if I would like to be on this team and of course I said yes. It means a lot to my career, it’s a lot of responsibility and I know that I can influence a lot of people’s lives, especially young people’s lives, so it’s very exciting. They look up to me and see what I do.

What are your goals for ASU2025?
My goal for the Junior Pan American Games is to have fun, swim fast, be with my teammates and perform the way I want to.
