Canada’s Maggie Mac Neil is already an Olympic champion and eight-time world champion at just 23 years old. She has set multiple world records in the 50m and 100m butterfly short course events as well as the 50m backstroke. Mac Neil won her first world championship title in 2019 in the 100m butterfly (long course) event and has since added seven other golds in the short course championships in 2021 and 2022.

The versatile swimmer followed that by winning three total medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, including her title in the 100m butterfly as well as a silver and a bronze in the 4x100m freestyle and medley, respectively.

Now Maggie is preparing for an important 2023 season that not only includes the 2023 World Aquatics Championship in Japan this July, but also her first Pan American Games this October in Santiago, Chile.

“It means so much to represent the swimming community. I’m just excited to participate in my first Pan Am Games. It has been a big event. I mean I watched some of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games and have been dying to participate myself, so I’m definitely excited to bring it here and have a great crowd and hopefully get a couple of medals and hopefully some records for Canada,” Maggie Mac Neil tells Panam Sports.
