REBECA ANDRADE CHOSEN AS MEMBER OF TEAM PANAM SPORTS FOR SANTIAGO 2023

Brazil’s star gymnast and Olympic champion Rebeca Andrade will represent all of the Americas at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games as a member of the new Team Panam Sports.

Andrade is joined by Marileidy Paulino (DOM), Anderson Peters (GRN), Daniel Dhers (VEN), Alejandra Orozco (MEX), Agustina Albertario (ARG), Mijain Lopez (CUB), Maggie Mac Neil (CAN), Angelo Caro (PER) and the duo of Marco and Esteban Grimalt (CHI) as the newest athlete ambassadors of Panam Sports.

SANTIAGO, CHILE (July 6, 2023) — Panam Sports is proud to announce the 11 new members of Team Panam Sports that will inspire millions this October at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

These exceptional athletes are champions and medalists at the biggest sports events in the world, from the Olympic and Pan American Games to World Championships. They are world-renowned for their determination, skill and incredible performances.

The 2023 edition of Team Panam Sports is led by Rebeca Andrade (Artistic Gymnastics – Brazil), Marileidy Paulino (Athletics – Dominican Republic), Anderson Peters (Athletics – Grenada), Daniel Dhers (BMX Freestyle – Venezuela), Alejandra Orozco (Diving – Mexico), Agustina Albertario (Field Hockey – Argentina), Mijain Lopez (Wrestling – Cuba), Maggie Mac Neil (Swimming – Canada), Angelo Caro (Skateboarding – Peru) and the duo of Marco and Esteban Grimalt (Beach Volleyball – Chile).

Rebeca Andrade has achieved incredible heights on the biggest stages in the world of artistic gymnastics. She began her senior professional career in 2015 and competed at her first Olympics at Rio 2016 in her home country, reaching the finals in both the individual all-around and team events.

However, several major injuries prevented Rebeca from reaching her full potential at the start of her career. She underwent a length recovery process during the pandemic and was ready to show the world what she was capable of in her first fully healthy season in 2021.

The first stop on her comeback tour came at the Pan American Championships where she won golds in the team event and individual all-around, securing her qualification to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Then in Japan, Rebeca finally realized her full potential by winning Brazil’s first-ever Olympic medal in women’s artistic gymnastics, taking the silver in the all-around event. She followed that incredible performance with her first Olympic gold in the vault competition.

After making history at the Olympics, Rebeca has added two world championship titles in 2021 and 2022, as well as two more continental titles in 2022. Now Andrade has her sights focused on competing at her first Pan American Games at Santiago 2023 this October.

“Despite having so many well-known athletes in Brazil, I am very proud to have been chosen as a member of Team Panam Sports for my accomplishments and for all that I have achieved. I love being able to represent my country and be the inspiration for other people so that they are also able to reach higher places or better finishes,” Rebeca Andrade tells Panam Sports.

These 11 superstars who have combined for 15 Olympic, 41 world championship and 14 Pan American Games medals will compete at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games not only for their countries but for all of the Americas as ambassadors of Team Panam Sports. They will show millions that sport lives in all of us as they strive to achieve greatness and demonstrate that anyone can become a champion.

Brazil cannot wait to watch Rebeca Andrade, the members Team Panam Sports and many more of the world’s best athletes compete in the Chilean capital this October at Santiago 2023.
