SANTIAGO 2023 HOLDS FIRST PRESS CONFERENCE WITH OPENING CEREMONY ARTISTS

The Main Press Center of the Pan American Games is now fully operational with the Pan American Games beginning in just three days.

The first press conference featured the creators of the Santiago 2023 Official Song, Movimiento Original, as well as the directors of the companies producing the Opening Ceremony, Balich and Lotus.

SANTIAGO, CHILE (October 17, 2023) — Excitement for the Santiago 2023 Opening Ceremony continues to build with the grand opening of the Pan American Games now just three days away.

Today, Santiago 2023 held the first press conference of the Games in the Main Press Center (MPC) with more than 200 journalists in attendance. The conference featured the artists behind  the Official Song of Santiago 2023, Movimiento Original, as well as directors of Balich and Lotus, the companies producing the Opening Ceremony.

While exact details of the Opening Ceremony were kept under wraps to ensure plenty of surprises for the fans who attend the ceremony in Chile’s National Stadium as well as the millions of fans who will watch the ceremony on television and the Panam Sports Channel around the world, the excitement for both the artists and the directors of the show to showcase the culture of Chile was evident.

“This milestone of being part of the 19th edition of these Games, to represent Chilean hip-hop and be considered for such an important project such as creating the Official Song of the Pan American Games is incredible. I hope that it will open doors to our culture. And as a member of the hip-hop community, we are very happy and grateful to be a a part of this project,” said Camilo of the group Movimiento Original.

“We have spent more than 10 months developing this show. We feel very happy with this challenge of showcasing the culture of our country. Without a doubt, we are going to surprise everyone on October 20 during the Opening Ceremony of the Games. From the Chilean artists, the culture and everything that Chile has to offer such an important event, it’s going to be a tremendous ceremony,” added Martin Rivera of Lotus, Director of the Pan American Project.

The Opening Ceremony will feature more than 5,000 artists in addition to the performances by Movimiento Original, Ana Tijoux, Los Bunkers, Los Tres, Los Jaivas and of course the star of the show, Colombian icon Sebastian Yatra. All of these artists and performers will tell the story of Chile’s rich history and culture while putting on a great show for the athletes who will participate in the Parade of Nations, the thousands of fans in the stands and the millions of viewers at home.

“We have to tell the story to the world without words, we can’t have language barriers. The emotions should be linked to the messages and this is what we will make sure to do for Chile,” said Balich Director of Ceremonies, Claudia Cattai.

Another press conference will be held with the closing act of the Opening Ceremony, the superstar Sebastian Yatra, on October 19 in the MPC where a few more details about the show will be provided.
