The Latin Grammy awarded artist from Colombia says he is amazed by the organization of the Pan American Games at his press conference the day before the Santiago 2023 Opening Ceremony.
“It’s a dream for anyone to be a part of such an important event like the Pan American Games,” the superstar told the more than 400 accredited media in attendance.
SANTIAGO, CHILE (October 19, 2023) — The Colombian superstar Sebastian Yatra is now in Santiago, Chile as he prepares to showcase his talent to the world during the Santiago 2023 Opening Ceremony on Friday, October 20.
Before performing in front of thousands of athletes and fans in Chile’s National Stadium tomorrow night and millions more who will be watching at home, Yatra had the chance to experience life at the Pan American Games and connect with athletes.
His first stop in Chile was to visit one of his sporting idols and Colombian compatriots Mariana Pajon at Parque Peñalolen where the BMX competition will be held during the first week of the Games. Sebastian witnessed the talent of Pajon firsthand while also meeting several athletes from across the Americas.
“Mariana has represented Colombia and is one of the most recognized athletes who always gives her all for our country. I was with her today and she impressed me as I watched her and saw her sincerity, her charisma and also how attentive she is. Giving advice, supporting and telling other athletes how they can improve,” Sebastian Yatra told more than 400 accredited media during his official press conference this afternoon.
Yatra then paid a quick visit to the Pan American Village in Cerrillos where he was greeted to raucous fanfare from the athletes from Team Colombia and Team Chile. He walked through the Village taking photos with athletes and volunteers alike and also received gifts from both the delegations of Colombia and Chile.
His day concluded at the National Stadium Park that will be the epicenter of the Games and the scene of his show-stopping performance Friday night. There he gave a press conference alongside Panam Sports President Neven Ilic and Santiago 2023 Executive Director Harold Mayne-Nicholls. Yatra highlighted his excitement for the Games and his avid love for sport.
“It’s a dream for anyone to be a part of such an important event like the Pan American Games. It’s going to be an impressive party. The production and everything we are putting together for the inauguration is something that makes me very happy,” said Yatra.
“I want to thank everyone who is going to be part of this great event, from the production crews, to Lotus, to Balich and of course Sebastian Yatra. There will be a lot of surprises, so Sebastian, thank you very much for being in Chile and thank you very much for being part of this great event that is the inauguration of the Pan American Games,” said Panam Sports President, Neven Ilic.
After performing at the Opening Ceremony, Yatra says he hopes to be able to go to the venues and see the sports he most enjoys such as diving, BMX and any sport that requires courage.
“It’s something extremely difficult, which requires a lot of discipline. It’s not like music where you just have to learn to sing well and it’s something subjective. I like those sports where they feel afraid, but they go and compete anyway. It must be like when they ask me if I don’t think it’s scary singing in front of 100,000 people,” added Yatra.
Sebastian will showcase his own courage to the world on Friday night, performing several of his chart-topping hits for millions of people worldwide who can watch his performance and the entirety of the Opening Ceremony for free on the Panam Sports Channel.
