These exceptional athletes are champions and medalists at the biggest sports events in the world, from the Olympic and Pan American Games to World Championships. They are world-renowned for their determination, skill and incredible performances.

The 2023 edition of Team Panam Sports is led by Anderson Peters (Athletics – Grenada), Alejandra Orozco (Diving – Mexico), Rebeca Andrade (Artistic Gymnastics – Brazil), Maggie Mac Neil (Swimming – Canada), Daniel Dhers (BMX Freestyle – Venezuela), Mijain Lopez (Wrestling – Cuba), Agustina Albertario (Hockey – Argentina), Marileidy Paulino (Athletics – Dominican Republic), Angelo Caro (Skateboarding – Peru) and the duo of Marco and Esteban Grimalt (Beach Volleyball – Chile).

Grenada’s Anderson Peters is already a two-time athletics world champion in the javelin throw of and won the gold medal at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games where he set a new Games record of 87.31m.

Although he is just 25 years old, he has been competing on the world’s biggest stages for more than 10 years. He began his career with five straight victories in the CARIFTA Games for young athletics stars in the Caribbean, setting his first National Record at the event in 2016. Over the past seven years he has broken that mark on more than five occasions while making even more history along the way.

He followed up his victory at Lima 2019 with his first world championship title at the World Athletics Championship in Doha, Qatar. Although he didn’t make the finals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, he came back stronger than ever in the 2022 Diamond League, throwing an astounding 93.07m — good for fifth farthest in history — to win the event. He soon picked up another Diamond League gold medal before winning his second world championship title in Eugene, USA.

Now, Anderson is ready to defend his throne at the Pan American Games and compete at Santiago 2023 against the best athletes of the Americas.

“I’m expecting to be over 90 meters at the Pan Am Games. I think the people of Santiago would love to see the javelin go extremely far so I’m looking forward to that. I hope to get even closer to the world record and defend my world championship title, defend my Pan Am Games title and hopefully become the Olympic champion for 2024 in Paris,” Anderson Peters tells Panam Sports.

These 11 superstars who have combined for 15 Olympic, 41 world championship and 14 Pan American Games medals will compete at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games not only for their countries but for all of the Americas as ambassadors of Team Panam Sports. They will show millions that sport lives in all of us as they strive to achieve greatness and demonstrate that anyone can become a champion.

Grenada cannot wait to watch Anderson Peters, the members Team Panam Sports and many more of the world’s best athletes compete in the Chilean capital this October at Santiago 2023.
