THE FLAGS OF THE AMERICAS FLY HIGH IN THE PAN AMERICAN VILLAGE

Panam Sports Secretary General Jimena Saldaña gave the welcoming words.

The flag pavilion in the International Zone of the Pan American Village was the setting for the traditional Flag Raising Ceremony. The preamble to the start of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games was attended by the Panam Sports Executive Committee led by President Neven Ilic as well as athletes and leaders of each of the member nations of the Pan American Family.

During this protocol event, the joy and expectations of all those present were evident, eager for the start of the Games.

The emotional words of the Panam Sports Secretary General contributed to the emotional atmosphere that those present enjoyed.

“In this Village we are going to fulfill dreams, we are going to create experiences that will last a lifetime. Today we will honor our athletes, but we are always grateful for the effort and great work carried out by the Chilean people to be able to open these doors where more than 6,600 athletes will sleep, where they will enjoy the home they deserve. Congratulations to sport and the Pan American Family,” said Jimena Saldaña, who in closing also thanked the Santiago 2023 Corporation, as well as the volunteers for their effort and work.

Under the notes of the Panam Sports Anthem, representatives of the Chilean armed forces were in charge of complying with the protocol of raising the flags of the participating countries for these Games.

Just at the end of the melody, the “Escuadrilla Halcones” of the Chilean Air Force flew over the Village, releasing trails of smoke with the colors red, white and blue, making some of those present stand up with excitement in this traditional Flag Raising Ceremony where the participating athletes of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games are welcomed.

To close the event, the Chilean Folklore Ballet known as BAFOCHI delighted those present with a series of traditional dances, highlighting the values of Chilean culture.

All the actions of this preamble to the Games to come could be seen around the world on the Panam Sports Channel, which will be broadcasting all of the action from the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games via streaming for free.
