ASAFA POWELL, SPECIAL GUEST AT THE “EQUITY IN MOTION” EMPOWERMENT EVENT IN BERMUDA

The Bermuda Olympic Association (BOA), through its Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, hosted an important event called “Equity in Motion,” an inspiring weekend designed to celebrate, empower, and connect Bermuda’s athletes, coaches, referees, and leaders, regardless of their gender identity or expression, so that they can reach their full potential both on and off the field.

This highly anticipated event took place on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Grotto Bay Hotel and brought together athletes, coaches, mentors, and community leaders not only from Bermuda but also from the Caribbean and the United States in an engaging combination of interactive workshops, storytelling, and sports-inspired activities. The highlight of the event was the distinguished presence of legendary Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell as guest speaker.

Building on the success of previous initiatives that promoted and supported gender equality, Equity In Motion aims to encourage participation and leadership in sport, highlight Bermudian role models and international guest speakers, foster mentorship between generations of athletes and professionals, and promote gender equality and inclusion within the Bermudian sports community.

“This event goes beyond sport: it’s about showing our girls that they have a place in all areas, both on and off the field,” said Donna Raynor, Chair of Gender Diversity and Inclusion. “We want them to see the possibilities, the confidence, and the community reflected in every story they hear that day.”

The Bermuda Olympic Committee encourages the public to join the movement as it champions policies and programs that break down barriers, cultivate a sense of belonging, and ensure that the Olympic values of equality and dignity shine brightly in Bermuda and beyond.
