BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA (March 28, 2023) — The Pan American Session of Olympic Academies organized by Panam Sports and the Argentine Olympic Committee successfully concludes in Buenos Aires.

The two-day session was filled with hard work and included interesting speakers from all over the world, including: Emilio Fernandez, the Director of the Research Institute of the University of Barcelona; Hussein Muñoz, the Professor of the University of the West of Mexico; Gary Rhodes from the United States; and Argentina’s most decorated athlete at the Pan American Games, Sabrina Ameghino, among many others.

“It is always positive for those of us who love sports and Olympism to come together in these types of events. The Olympic Academies of the NOCs are doing a great job, but it is necessary to unite and continue on this path of disseminating and teaching Olympic values in our society and especially amongst young people,” said Panam Sports Secretary General Ivar Sisniega.

“I want to congratulate the Panam Sports Olympic Academies Commission, led by its President Alfred Emmanuel, and especially thank the President Mario Moccia and all his staff at the Argentine Olympic Committee, for organizing a great event and for welcoming us for a few days. They were great hosts of this very important event for the entire Olympic Movement of our continent,” concluded Sisniega.

“We are very happy with the organization of this Olympic Academy Session. Our Committee is very committed to the values of Olympism. We are aware that Olympic education for everyone is just as important as the victories and the medals. It was a pleasure to receive everyone in Argentina and share our experiences together,” said COA President Mario Moccia.

“We hope that persons will leave here re-energized and return home to carry out the works of the Olympic Academies in conjunction with the National Olympic Committees. It was a tough and hard-working two days, it was not a holiday and I hope you get back home and get your work completed. Let me thank my Commission members for all of their efforts that helped us finally realize this first session under the new Panam Sports brand,” said the Commission President Alfred Emmanuel.

At the end of the session, an interesting workshop was held where all the attendees met in different groups and proposed strategies for the education of Olympic values. They discussed how to motivate athletes and how Panam Sports, in conjunction with the different National Olympic Academies, can work together for the development of Olympic education and culture in our region.

The Pan American Session of Olympic Academies is part of a series of events that Panam Sports is organizing following the success of the continental Athlete Forum in Cancun, Mexico last December and the Women in Sport Forum held earlier this month in Panama City, Panama.
