As part of the celebration of International Women’s Day, a special breakfast was held on Friday, March 6, at the Sheraton Hotel in Santiago. During the event, three women who are part of the COCH family were honored.
The event was attended by government officials, the Board of Directors of the Chilean Olympic Committee, athletes, presidents of national federations, representatives of Team Chile sponsors, and COCH staff members.
The presence of the future Minister of Sports and former Chilean athlete, Natalia Ducó, was particularly significant in reinforcing the central message of the gathering: the importance of women’s leadership and empowerment in the sports world and the Olympic movement.
The director and president of the Commission on Women in Sport and Gender Equality, Patricia López, along with COCH Vice President Carolina Sanz, kicked off the event with opening remarks, followed by the screening of a video featuring Team Chile athletes.
“The Olympic world has made giant strides in gender equality, undergoing a radical transformation since its inception. The most significant and recent advancement was solidified at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which marked a turning point in the history of sport,” said Patricia López, President of the COCH’s Women and Sport Commission.
Following this, Chile’s future Minister of Sport and the President of the Chilean Olympic Committee, Miguel Ángel Mujica, addressed the attendees.
During the breakfast, three outstanding women were recognized: Manuela Urroz, a member of the Team Chile women’s field hockey national team that recently qualified for the World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium; Julia Acevedo, coach of the women’s national basketball team; and Carmen Gloria Mattensohn, an official with the Chilean Olympic Committee.
Representatives from the Commission on Women in Sports and Gender Equality were in charge of presenting the awards.
