Argentina’s outstanding hockey player, was told that she will not continue in the national team, generating a deep discomfort in her. “It doesn’t hurt me to be removed, I’m bothered by the forms,” she said in an interview to TYC Sports.
Last March 20, Argentina’s historic field hockey player, ambassador of Team Panam Sports, surprised the whole world with a publication on Instagram:
“I wanted to tell you that as of yesterday I will no longer be part of Las Leonas. I will tell you the reason later when I finish processing everything that happened. I just want to thank all the people who were with me 15 years ago. I always wish the best to the team.
The rumors began to grow like a snowball. The Argentinean and specialized field hockey press did not understand what was going on.
After 16 years playing for the Leonas, being a world and Olympic medalist and with an impeccable career, she informed in a not very clear way that she would not continue in the Albiceleste.
However, days later and in an interview with Gonzalo Bonadeo for TYC Sports, she clarified the situation making it clear that she did not decide to leave, that she was removed and that she is very upset about the way this happened.
Agustina says that she talked to coach Fernando Ferrara in December, because she needed to organize her life as her plans were to play in Uruguay. At that time the Albiceleste coach did not tell her anything about the decision she would take 3 months later.
Agustina Albertario by technical decision, was out of Las Leonas and will not play the Copa America 2025, nor the World Cup in 2026.
In total, the Argentine striker played 238 games with the national team and scored an impressive 117 goals. A referent who is now leaving Las Leonas.
“I did not quit the national team. I want to keep playing, I still feel good and with a lot of energy,” she said in an interview.
“It hurt me and it hurts me, I try to communicate that it doesn’t hurt me to be taken out, obviously it always hurts but that’s not what makes me angry, it bothers me not to respect that we are a person first. I don’t want them to throw me a party, at least let me know and give me a chance, you know that this is not from one day to the next”, added the Olympic medalist.
All the darts from the striker are aimed at Argentina’s coach. “I would have appreciated it much more if he had told me that you don’t perform, you’re no good to me, you can’t even run. He told me that he wanted to try new strikers because there was going to be a replacement with players who were no longer going to be there. I got angry because we spoke in December, with the confidence he had in me. I wanted to try you out in February,’ he told me. You’ve had me for seven years, I played in a World Cup and an Olympic Game with you, do you want to try me out? You flattered me, we talked a lot? I prefer people who go straight to the front,” said Agustina.
Agustina Albertario is currently in Uruguay, playing for the club Lomas of that country, where she hopes to continue playing and performing at her best, forgetting this bad time, and always with the illusion of returning to wear the albiceleste that gave her so many joys in the last 16 years of her career.
