NOAH LYLES REWRITES THE RECORD BOOKS WITH A TIME OF 14.67 IN THE 150-METER RACE IN OSTRAVA

Noah Lyles isn’t chasing just one world record anymore — he’s collecting them.

The American sprint king and reigning Olympic 100m champion clocked a stunning 14.67 seconds in the 150m at the Ostrava Golden Spike on Tuesday, shattering the world best that Kishane Thompson had set just two months ago in Florida. It’s a non-standard distance that rarely gets run at elite level, but when it does, history tends to happen.

South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile was a clear second in 14.78, a mark that itself would have broken Thompson’s previous record, while Australian teenage phenomenon Gout Gout rounded out the podium in 14.96. The Lyles vs. Gout matchup had been one of the most anticipated clashes of the Continental Tour season, pitting the sport’s reigning superstar against the 18-year-old who looks increasingly ready to challenge him.

Lyles continues his red-hot 2026 form. Just ten days ago he won the 100m at the Rome Diamond League in 9.88, and now he owns a world best to his name. The 150m record is a quirky entry in the athletics almanac — Usain Bolt ran a 14.35 on a straight track in Manchester back in 2009, but that course didn’t meet standard criteria — making Lyles’ effort on a conventional bend-and-straight layout the legitimate benchmark.

For Lyles, the 200m world record remains the white whale. But on a June evening in the Czech Republic, he reminded the world that greatness has a way of finding him regardless of the distance.
