CONRRADO MOSCOSO: “CONTINENTAL RACQUETBALL IS IMPROVING DRAMATICALLY AND IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE DEMANDING”

Bolivia’s Pan American and world champion spoke exclusively with Panam Sports ahead of a new Pan American championship in the sport. He discussed his expectations for Guatemala, how he views the recent development of his sport, and the secret to becoming one of the top figures in the “racquetball world.”

To speak of Conrrado Moscoso is to speak of one of the most important and successful athletes in Bolivia and the Americas.

His achievements speak for themselves: World Champion in 2022 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico; three-time Pan American champion in Santiago 2023 and Lima 2019; and three-time South American champion.

He is a sports icon in his country and also on the global racquetball stage.

After a grueling schedule of competitions and training, Conrrado is back in his native Bolivia, preparing for what will be a new Pan American Racquetball Championship in Guatemala, an event that begins this Saturday, March 28.

Amid his demanding training schedule, he took the time to speak with Panam Sports and tell us how he is preparing for this new challenge in his career.

“I’m actually doing great. Obviously, I’m a bit worn out from the tournaments I’ve played on the professional circuit, but I’m super excited and enthusiastic, and I think I have the same goal of repeating what was achieved a few years ago—becoming Pan American champion. That’s the goal, and we’ve worked really hard these past few weeks at home to make that happen, to recover and be in top form for this tournament in Guatemala.”

Does the fact that you’re a leading figure in this sport—a Pan American and world champion—put pressure on you?
“The truth is, I don’t see it that way. At the end of the day, we’re all good players; we’re all on the same level, because obviously everyone is representing their country and wants to give their all to defend their flag. Every tournament is very different from the next. I obviously try to stay very focused; we’ve put in a lot of work toward that goal, and regardless of past results, I need to focus on myself. I think I need to mentally prepare to give it my all on the court and show that we’re ready.”

How do you view this Pan American Championship in Guatemala with the Bolivian team?
“We’re looking to have a strong competition and stay focused. We’re going with a team that includes several junior players, and we hope it will be a good showing. We have to take it step by step. We need to build our position gradually and achieve a good ranking. It’s important for the younger players to gain experience and see what the competitive level is like at the professional and international level.”

What is your perception of the current state of racquetball on the continent?
“The truth is that it’s improving tremendously and becoming more demanding all the time. What I like is that I see many more players on the professional circuit and also many juniors, and that’s what we’re aiming for—for this sport to expand further, for new athletes to join, and for us to keep growing. That’s very important, and I’m very happy with where things stand right now.”

What has been Conrrado Moscoso’s recipe or secret for achieving so much in this sport?
“I don’t think there’s a recipe as such, but rather the same dedication you put into every match and every training session. Above all, I believe the path always starts with training so that in tournaments you reap the rewards of all the effort you’ve put in. Dedication, effort, and the same commitment to what you do day in and day out in training lead you to achieve success. Everything you’ve trained for is reflected in the competitions, and it all depends on you—on the drive and sacrifice you’ve put in to reach your goals.”

The Pan American Racquetball Championship will take place from March 28 to April 4 and will be broadcast throughout the Americas and the world via the Panam Sports Channel.
