The best track and field athletes of the Dominican Republic face off against other Olympic talents this Saturday, April 1. Watch the full day of action live on the Panam Sports Channel.

SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (March 30, 2023) — Elite athletics events are coming to the Panam Sports Channel this year starting with the Felix Sanchez Classic this weekend.

On Saturday, April 1, several of the Dominican Republic’s stars will take to the track to compete against other world-class athletes in the invitational named after the country’s legendary hurdler Felix Sanchez.

The two-time Olympic champion, two-time world champion and four-time Pan American Games medalist organizes the event on a yearly basis as part of the World Athletics Continental Tour.

For the first time in history, this fast-paced athletics event will be live-streamed on the Panam Sports Channel. The event begins at 3:00pm ET (Santo Domingo/Miami) on Saturday at the Luguelin Santos Athletics Track.

The invitational will feature athletes competing in sprinting events such as the 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 600m, 1,500m, as well as the 100m, 110m and 300m hurdles. The women’s high jump and men’s triple jump are also on the schedule, while the event begins with youth races in the 100m and 400m. View the detailed event schedule on the Panam Sports Channel.

Stars of the Dominican Republic including Marileidy Paulino, Alexander Ogando and Fiordaliza Cofil and many more will take to the track to showcase their speed against their teammates and athletes from a total of 16 other countries from around the world.

The United States and Jamaica are sending talented athletes to the competition, including Erick Edwards Jr (USA) and Damion Thomas (JAM) who will face off in the 110m hurdles. World Championship medalist Cassandra Tate will also represent the U.S. in the women’s 300m hurdles.

The 17 countries competing in the event include: Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Bahrain, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, England, Guatemala, Haiti, Jamaica, Liberia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, United States and Venezuela.

The 2023 Felix Sanchez Classic is just the first elite athletics event that will be live streamed on the Panam Sports Channel this year. The 50th CARIFTA Games for the best U-20 track athletes in the Caribbean will be the next live athletics event on the channel from April 8-10.

Then the Diamond League makes its Panam Sports Channel debut on May 5 when the season begins in Doha, Qatar. Every single stop on the Diamond League’s world tour will be available to stream live on the Panam Sports Channel.

Finally, the year concludes with the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games where all of the best track and field athletes of the continent will gather to compete to hit their qualification times and marks for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
