BRAZIL WINS GOLD IN MEN’S SINGLES TENNIS

In a sweltering day of tennis at the Rakiura Resort in Luque, Brazil was crowned champion of the men’s singles event at the II Junior Pan American Games Asu2025, earning its first gold medal in this sport with scores of 3-6, 6-2, and 6-3.

The Brazilian, who is ranked 29th in the ITF junior world rankings as of August 11, claimed his country’s first tennis title at these games.

“I came with the mentality of winning and I knew it was going to be very hard, but I always have in mind that I’m going to achieve it,” Didoni said.

In the final, Argentine Dante Pagani took the first set 6-3, but João Pedro Didoni of Brazil rallied to take the next two sets 6-2, 6-3, to seal the victory.

The Brazilian showed his superiority on the center court of the Rakiura Resort. Despite losing the first set 3-6, he then came back and took control of the match, taking the score to 6-2, 6-3. With the victory, he earned his country’s first tennis gold medal at these Games.

In the bronze medal match, Ecuadorian Emilio Camacho prevailed in a demanding duel against Puerto Rican Yannik Andre Álvarez, securing third place on the podium.

Camacho dominated the match with scores of 6-3, 7-5, showing solidity in key moments and leaving Ecuador with a valuable medal in the sport.
