COLOMBIA AND BRAZIL WIN GOLD ON THE LAST DAY OF ARTISTIC SKATING

Brazil and Colombia were the only winners in the overall sport, each winning two gold medals.

On the last day of artistic skating at Santiago 2023, Colombia’s athlete Sandra Diaz won the gold medal in the women’s free skate with a total of 181.81 points. Meanwhile, Brazil’s skater Erik Medziukevicius secured the gold in the men’s free skate with a total of 188.21 points, earning him the top spot on the podium.

“Today was a very special day for me, a performance where I felt I could have done much better, but there were some mistakes. I came here with the conviction to make it to the podium,” expressed the Colombian champion, Sandra Diaz.

In the women’s competition, the silver medal went to Brazil’s Bianca Corteze, who scored 124.00 points. She had previously won a silver medal in the solo dance category at Asuncion 2022. Martina Della of Argentina completed the podium by claiming the bronze medal with 121.80 points.

In the men’s free skate, Brazil’s Erik Medziukevicius won the gold medal with a score of 188.21. Franco Mastroianni of Argentina, who scored 182.40 points, took second place.

At just 20 years of age, Mastroianni has already established himself as a prominent figure in the discipline, earning a bronze medal at the XII South American Games in Asunción 2022 and a silver medal at Santiago 2023. The bronze medal went to Colombia’s Deivi Rojas, who scored 164.73 points. Rojas had previously won the silver medal at the Bolivarian Games Valledupar 2022.

“The word is happiness. It’s incredible to be recognized for all the work and effort I’ve put in. It’s also amazing to see the audience enchanted by my skating routine and going wild for me,” said gold medalist Erik Medziukevicius.

“Regardless of the outcome, all kids who have a dream should work hard to achieve it, enjoy what they do and be happy,” said Argentine skater Franco Mastroianni.

With the conclusion of the last day, Brazil and Colombia were the only countries to claim gold medals in the overall sport, each securing two gold medals.
