Paraguay was crowned champions of the Pre-Olympic Football Tournament held in Venezuela, defeating the host country 2-0, while Argentina also secured their tickets to France by narrowly defeating their arch rivals Brazil thanks to a strong gameplan by coach Javier Mascherano.

The final day of the Pre-Olympic Football Tournament in Venezuela was full of emotion and uncertainty. The final four teams in the bracket were all seeking Olympic qualification with the results of each game determining the teams that booked their spot at Paris 2024.

The mission was clear for each team: win and you’re in.

In the first match, the great rivals of Argentina and Brazil faced each other. It was an evenly fought contest with defense stifling the action for the majority of the game.

Argentina was aggressive on the attack in search of victory, putting more shots on goal than the Brazilians. Time Brasil played an uncharacteristic game and often looked hesitant on offense.

The only goal of the match came in the 78th minute. A nice cross from Valentin Barco of Argentina perfectly set up Luciano Goundou who did not take the chance for granted, placing an accurate header to beat the Brazilian goalkeeper Mycael.

From that point on, Argentina stayed organized and played keep away on the opposing side of the field, with Brazil unable to reverse the score while lacking their typical brilliant play.

As extra time concluded, Javier Mascherano’s team walked away with the victory and qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In the final match, the hosts Venezuela played against Paraguay. In an entertaining match, the red and white team was superior to the locals and knew how to end the duel at the right moments.

Midfielder Diego Gomez Amarilla opened the scoring in the 48th minute for Paraguay thanks to a penalty shot. The second and final goal was scored by striker Diego Perez at the 75-minute mark.

The victory helped Paraguay clinch first place in the bracket with seven points to become champions of the Pre-Olympic Football Tournament, followed by Argentina with five points. The victories will send both teams to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this July and August.
