Flags on the Track: The Sportswear That Dressed the Delegations at Asu2025
Colors, identity, designs, and brands behind the uniforms that brought style and pride to the opening ceremony of the Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion.
With Paraguay boasting a minimalist and elegant aesthetic, Argentina sporting the sun as its emblem on its apparel, and Mexico opting for a vibrant color palette with a Quetzalcoatl on its back, the opening ceremony of the Asuncion 2025 Junior Pan American Games was not only a showcase of sporting talent, but also a showcase of cultural identity and trends in sportswear.
Between uniforms provided by international brands and others made by local manufacturers, each country took great care of the image of its athletes to leave an indelible mark on the history of the event.
Team Paraguay’s Asuncion 2025 uniform has a rich history. The team’s main colors, red and white, have maintained their tradition. These colors represent the passion and purity of the Paraguayan sporting spirit. The uniform presented for the opening ceremony maintains the essence of the traditional colors with a design that incorporates shades of blue in the home jersey.
The inclusion of these shades symbolizes the team’s unity and strength. The official uniform was designed by international brand New Balance, the main sponsor and responsible for the design and manufacture. The red, white, and blue colors, representative of the national flag, were proudly worn by more than 300 athletes during the competition and the opening ceremony.
Mexico, with a delegation of 74 athletes, presented a uniform that reflected its national colors with strength and clarity in its design. It highlighted the Quetzalcoatl, or “feathered serpent,” an ancestral symbol that represents wisdom, culture, and the connection between earth and sky. For Mexican athletes, this emblem not only evokes their historical roots, but also inspires strength, knowledge, and balance—essential values for competing with pride and passion at Asunción 2025.
Juana Castellaro Morello (field hockey) and Ulises Saravia (swimming) were chosen as flag bearers for the Argentine Delegation for the Opening Ceremony of the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games. The Argentine team wore a design that incorporated the emblematic sun into their clothing, a national symbol that stood out at the ceremony. The choice of color and details of the uniform reflected the country’s commitment to identity and history, in an ensemble that balanced tradition and sportsmanship.
For its part, El Salvador surprised everyone with modern uniforms and wore the official attire. Inspired by the waves of the Salvadoran coast, these designs reflected the connection with their territory and the use of cultural elements in sportswear, which contributed a fresh and original aesthetic to the ceremony.
The Dominican Republic presented uniforms in blue and red with white lettering that highlighted its national identity. The official presentation of the clothing was an event with strong institutional support, and although the manufacturer’s name was not disclosed, the quality and care taken in its manufacture were highlighted.
Other delegations, such as Peru, Venezuela, and Colombia, proudly displayed their national colors in their official uniforms, focusing more on national symbolism than on design or sponsorship details.
The volunteers, a key element in the success of any large-scale event, wore uniforms that reflected the cultural identity and festive spirit of Asunción 2025. Paraguay Rugby was responsible for designing and producing this clothing, creating garments with representative themes of the country. Highlights included jackets with a detailed map of the city, showcasing the diversity and richness of the urban environment, as well as oversized T-shirts decorated with traditional motifs such as chiperos and roosters, popular symbols that resonate in the Paraguayan collective imagination. This careful selection not only made it easier to identify the support team, but also added authenticity to the event experience.
In conclusion, the opening ceremony of the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games was a showcase not only for athletic talent and effort, but also for cultural expression through apparel. Between official uniforms, locally inspired designs, and the occasional presence of sports brands, each delegation displayed a polished image that contributed to the visual and symbolic richness of the event.
